Addictions Support Worker

The Addiction Support Worker is a permanent full-time position.  The Addiction Support Worker will work within a culturally competent system of care and as such will acknowledge and incorporate, at all levels, the importance of culture, the expansion of cultural knowledge and the overall vision of Weechi-It-Te-Win Family Services.

The Addiction Support Worker will foster cultural awareness through active participation in an inductive learning process, gaining an understanding of historical trauma and impacts of oppression and how these relate to current issues related to Native child welfare services.  The Addiction Support Worker will develop culturally competent practice skills that are congruent to the unique needs of the ten First Nations and to Weechi-It-Te-Win Family Services.

 

The role of the Addiction Support Worker is based on establishing a trusting relationship with families and individuals in order to help and to support them and as such will not undertake protection responsibilities within the team however, still has a duty to report.

This is a contract term position.

 

Primary Qualifications:       

Possess a valid Ontario class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle.  Ability to work outside normal business hours as required.

The Addiction Support Worker will be required to complete training from Weechi-it-te-win Family Services prior to commencement of employment.

Effective listening, observation and facilitation skills to effectively assess clients and provide appropriate treatment and consultation;

Strong mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to respond or assist in emergency situations;

Strong collaboration skills to manage service delivery in conjunction with case managers, clients, their family members/caregivers and other health care professionals;

Ability to deal with demanding interpersonal situations and respond with good judgment and understanding;

Ability to communicate information effectively through a variety of means including meetings, reports, letters and presentations and

Good oral and written communication skills to feed the client file.

Salary: Commensurate with experience. PFT  3-month probationary period.

 This position is full time with a 3-month probationary period.  POSITION AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY!
